A Mountain
When I climb a mountain,
It will be a great accomplishment.
I will plan ahead for weeks,
Make all the necessary preparations.
I will go alone.
When I reach my mountain,
I am sure it will take me
All day
To climb,
And when I get to the top,
I will lay down under the topmost,
Shadiest tree.
I will tilt my head back and smile
For being that much closer to God.
I will not smile
In a smug or self-satisfied way.
That is not my reason to climb.
No, I will be moved to tears
By the very mountain
Whose slope is so steep
And beautiful,
And who brought me
That much closer to God.
